Just a quick browse through social media is enough to find the word gratitude in videos, posts and hashtags. But why has this word become so widespread? What power does it have? Throughout the text we will explain all of this so that you understand and be grateful every day. This change in the way you see life will certainly promote a great change and provide you with countless benefits.
What is the power of gratitude?
Human beings have a series of survival mechanisms. After all, early man had to deal with much danger in the wild. Without these mechanisms we would likely not be sitting here today.
The big issue is that we no longer face the same risks. While this automatic way of protecting ourselves is still useful, it doesnโt need to be activated all the time. We no longer need to have a scarcity mindset and direct all our attention to risks and problems.
This is where gratitude comes in , broadening our vision and showing us that we have many reasons to be thankful. In the past, perhaps if a homo habilis (the first human being to exist) stopped to contemplate nature, he might be attacked by a wild beast. But today, we have the privilege of being able to do this and much more.
A grateful mindset is focused on abundance, on giving thanks instead of complaining. This way, we donโt close our eyes to problems, we just see them differently, looking for solutions instead of focusing on complaining. This way, we can go further, achieving our goals and living a full life.
Be grateful every day through the following attitudes
If you want to live a full life and be grateful every day, you can start by doing the following. Remember that big changes take time to happen, so get started and with each passing day this will become stronger in your way of seeing life.
1. Three things daily to write about you’re thankful for in your life
If you want to get a force feed of good things, then the best tool in doing this is through gratitude journaling. Each day, you must put down three things you’re thankful for. This can be your health, your family, your job, you getting time to watch your favorite TV show, or anything you like.
2. Remember everything that you have overcome and how much you’ve grown
Many times, we overcome great challenges and end up forgetting them because we quickly get used to good things. So, the mind turns the extraordinary into the ordinary. To change this, think about everything you have been through and how you did an excellent job, then your outlook on life will change.
3. Appreciate the present moment through the 5 senses
This may be through accelerated thinking and too much worry, making us forget the appreciation of the present moment. In order to correct this, it’s good practice to activate all five senses that include touch, sight, hearing, taste, and smell. Through this, you will get connected with here and now as if to experience every moment to its fullest.
4. Look on the bright side of things
Anything that happens to you has a good side; however, sometimes you have to make an effort to look at it. If something bad seems to be happening to you, stop, breathe, and let your mind process what is happening. Try to see the situation from another person’s point of view as well; that’s how you’ll be able to see the good side in things.
5. Commit to be grateful to yourself.
Just reading this article, called “Be Grateful!”, does not immediately change your thinking. First, you should make a promise to yourself and try to move forward as a person who honors his promises. Forget about making promises to people: this is something completely individual.
6. Pay attention to your language
The more thankful you are, the more positive language you will use. You will not say such things as “I can’t do it,” “I’ll never do it,” “I’m not capable,” and on and on. And when you really need to say something like that, you must add the word “yet,” which says you have confidence in yourself. Try to pay attention to the way you express yourself. If you catch yourself using negative language, work on changing it over time.
7. Show your gratitude to people through actions
Saying โthank youโ is a sign of good manners, but you need to go further when you want to show gratitude to someone. So, whenever possible, return the favor with a gesture. If a friend has done you a kindness, do them another one as soon as possible. This will start a powerful chain of gratitude that will reach many people.
8. Replace complaining with gratitude
When we are living in autopilot and not giving proper value to the good, we tend to complain excessively. If you want to become the grateful person that you can be, complaining has got to give up its spot to gratitude.
Complain less at waking up for work. Rejoice that you have a job. Need to tidy up a house? Good to have a home. Play the game of contentment as played by Eleanor H. Porter’s heroine Pollyanna.
9. Appreciate the small things
In the first tip we recommend you to maintain a gratitude journal and write three reasons why you are thankful each day. Of course, nobody has three awesome reasons why he or she is grateful every day, but in order to start practicing the art of appreciating the little things, all of these are good reasons: for example, a tasty meal, a little rest at the end of a busy day, the beauty of a landscape when looking out of the window.
10. Be thankful to family members and love ones.
Finally, it is never forgotten that loved ones also ought to be appreciated. In most cases, because of the rush of the routine involved, we forget to say “thank you” and reciprocate the gestures of family and close friends. Do not treat the acts of these people towards you as only obligations. Thank them, show how much that particular person means to you, and that will make all the difference.
