10 Places in Your Home You Don’t Clean Enough
You pay extra attention to keeping your home clean, right from the corners to things that are not so easy on the eyes.
Well, before I start, let me just mention that there are millions of different types of bacteria that live in your home so, if people live in the house, you’d probably find millions of them living there day in and day out. Not all of them bad; still it is deemed worthwhile to keep hygiene at a proper level to avoid excess proliferation.
Where are these bacteria hiding?
- Washcloths and sponges : Do not turn your washcloths over very often and do not use them for several weeks. These items are always wet and are a potential breeding ground for many bacteria. Therefore, they should be discarded after a short use and replaced with new ones. It is also a good idea to disinfect them frequently .
- Shower Curtain: Clean the shower curtain every 15 days, but it’s very tiring, so you should let it wash inside the washing machine with few towels and lukewarm water; mold remover preferably baking soda and vinegar.
- Toilet: You will be surprised to know that your computer and many other appliances are dirtier than your toilet. Never forget to clean your toilet at least once in seven days. Tip: Never let the toilet lid open while flushing otherwise you may get splashed.
- Towels: Since you are planning to clean up everything in the house, think of how long it’s been since you washed your towels. Towels are like clothes or bedding-there might be dead skin cells stuck on it; hence, it becomes a haven for bacteria and germs. That’s why you should not use the same towel for more than three days in a row.
- Other bathroom items : It may be unnecessary to clean every aspect of your bathroom , but start with the tiles . If you wipe them dry after every shower, you’ll have less dirt building up. Wash your soap dish, glasses, mirrors, and generally all surfaces with water.
There are items and areas in your home that need to be cleaned very frequently.
- Bed sheets: Even if you shower or bath every day don’t use the same bed sheets over a week’s time. You have to remember dead skin cells fall off your body onto the bed sheet every night. You may vacuum them every day, but only the washing machine can clean them properly with warm water and detergent.
- Floors : Floor cleaning is relative. Some rooms are more frequented throughout the day, some pets shed hair , and some rainy days can make the floors dirtier. Floors in shared spaces should be thoroughly cleaned once a week.
- Doorknobs and keys : It’s not a good idea to overthink the number of bacteria that can be on common household items like these, but if you don’t clean your doorknobs and keys properly, you can be sure that they’ll be home to a large population of germs. One of the strongest disinfectants you can use is isopropyl alcohol .
- Computers, mice, remotes, cell phones : By now, you probably understand that wherever you touch something, there are bacteria, germs, or molds that you can leave behind or, worse, get on your hands. Finally, it is recommended that you use alcohol to clean these items at least once a week.
Now, let’s not forget about the furniture, carpets, and upholstery. Those should be cleaned regularly as well. Daily cleaning is not required, but it’s true that if they are not cleaned enough, there’s indeed where bacteria and germs build up. A good aim would be once in a week.
